it'll be a while before I can get a new car (no need until I'm healed enough to drive) but I've been looking around to see if I can find something I want. Been looking into a C5 Z06 or an early C6 'vette. Trying to keep it under 30k.
Insurance paid out almost 14k so after paying off my loan and deductible etc I'm getting a $6500 check. On top of that I have a couple months to save up so I should have a decent downpayment.
thoughts, insights, comments?

Depends upon your definition of "enjoy."
Black out the windows.
Install a killer audio system.
Put a waterbed in the back.
Disco ball and laser lights.
Spray paint "FREE CANDY" on the side...

Naw, I'm sure you can find something good with 6-10k down. You could probably even pick up a modded vehicle.
Are you looking for something new, warranty, to play with, what exactly? Some nice vettes and 2 seat BMWs fit in the "under 30k" category. Could have a Solstice out the door in your downpayment range. Could even look into somethign liek a Lotus Elise for the money yer talking about...
Need to know the particulars about handling, refinement of interior, new/used, etc. |

I'm assuming you are thinking sports car/coupe not truck (Silverado), or 4 door (Cadillac | G8 | Grand Prix GXP | Monte Carlo SS | Impala SS | Lacrosse Super)
LS based C5 C6 4th gen FB/TA/Camaro 5th gen Camaro GTO
and of course...

yeah sports car...
I considered for a while a 5th gen camaro but figured I could get a better car for cheaper by getting a used corvette.
I'm not a fan of the new GTOs (Holden Monaros). I could get another 4th gen but I would rather get something different. Tho if I can get a 4th gen for a good price that would leave me with a good car and no payments to make I'd be happy with that. |

Are you interested in a CTS-V at all (not mine)? If you get a vette, I'd definitely say C5 because I feel you get more car for your money. The problem you will run into is that you drive cars very hard, and the rear end probably won't hold up to your driving style. Additionally, if you hate flying over corners sideways you'll have to keep the tires and suspension fresh. Ask me how I know.
The way I see your situation is this: 4th gen F-body with supercharger and probably built motor 600whp and 9inch = ~15k
1999-2001 C5 with about 450 whp moderate build = ~20k and you'll have to augment your driving style
2004-2005 CTS-V bolt on mods = ~20k, I see you killing this cars differential in 10 miles...
I don't think you need to spend 30k to find a car you'll love. Hell you could buy my vette for under 25. |

is your vette fixed?
the problem with 15k for the fbody with 600whp is I dont have 15k... I need a loan and there isn't a bank in the nation that is going to give me a loan to buy a supercharger and parts to compliment it after buying the fbody.
my driving style isn't as bad as it used to be. I still push the car hard from time to time but I really dont dump the clutch or run it hard constantly like I used to.
and no I'm not interested in the CTS-V... it's an awesome car but I dont want one |

Not yet, parts are all out for rebuild and about to be back.
For the price range I mentioned it would come with a installed nitrous kit, built diff, brand new bearings throughout torque tube, fresh mcleod, dynosheet showing 600-650rwhp, and possibly a 10second timeslip. I think she'd be able to take your abuse no problem. It's much more of a straightline car than a curve buster with the Mickey Thompsons on it. Tires on all four corners are brand new. Chances are if I start driving it again I wouldn't want to sell it.
Let me know when you're ready to buy. I'd like to be involved in helping you find your next car. |

I've got the money for the downpayment already so just a matter of getting a loan lined up. But since I can't drive yet I'm in no hurry and the longer I wait the more of a downpayment I can save up to reduce monthly payments etc.
I sent you a PM Boob |

found this vette on carmax. It's a 2000 FRC for $16,998. Aren't the FRCs really rare and expensive? |
